Kaio Kathriner is a bilingual Swiss-Canadian director who navigates documentary, fiction and commercial work while exploring themes of history, adventure, sport, and human conflict through the lens of his rural Canadian upbringing. From shooting at Everest Base Camp to on-ice with NHL superstar Connor McDavid, his filmmaking adventures have landed him in Nepal, Cambodia, Peru, and across the US while delivering for clients like FIFA+, NHL Studios, NBC Sports, BellMedia/CRAVE, CBC Arts, Warner Music Canada and Rolling Stone on Twitch.
His accolades include winning SRG SSR's Best of Switzerland – Audience Choice Award at Shnit Shortfilmfestival 2019, as well as his short fiction THE DAY WE LEFT enjoying an 18-month run on CRAVE which is now in feature development through Bell Media’s Harold Greenberg Fund. His debut feature film, the historical adventure doc THE LAST STOP: CANADA’S LOST LOCOMOTIVE recently premiered at Sudbury International Film Festival, and is touring the festival circuit and select theatres in Canada.
